Campfire Cones

Campfire dessert cones made by layering waffle ice cream cones with melted marshmallows, chocolate chips, and fruit, then warming them on a campfire grate. The hot foil-wrapped cones melt the filling so it becomes gooey and scoopable in minutes.

Ingredients

Waffle ice cream cones
  • 6 waffle ice cream cones Use store-bought waffle cones.
Marshmallow filling
  • 1 cup mini marshmallows Mini marshmallows melt quickly for a gooey center.
Chocolate layer
  • 1 cup chocolate chips Chocolate chips provide melty, speckled pockets.
Fruit layers
  • 1 cup banana slices Cut into small slices so they soften evenly.
  • 0.5 cup strawberries, diced Dice into bite-size pieces for a jammy effect.
Graham layer
  • 0.5 cup graham cracker pieces Adds crunch that lightly toasts as the filling heats.
Wrapping
  • 1 aluminum foil Wrap snugly to keep cones clean and warm evenly.

Equipment

  • 1 campfire grate

Method

Assemble the cones
  1. Fill each waffle cone with layers of mini marshmallows, chocolate chips, banana slices, strawberries, and graham cracker pieces.
  2. Wrap each filled cone completely in aluminum foil, sealing it snugly so it stays closed on the heat.
Melt on the campfire
  1. Place the wrapped cones on the campfire grate over medium heat for 4-5 minutes, rotating occasionally for even melting.
Cool and serve
  1. Remove the cones from the fire and let them cool for exactly 2 minutes so the filling sets slightly but stays molten.
  2. Carefully unwrap the foil and serve immediately with a spoon, revealing the melted marshmallows and chocolatey fruit layers.

Notes

Pro tip: pack the cone layers firmly but not compressed, so the marshmallows melt all the way through and the graham pieces stay crunchy at the edges. Store any leftovers in the refrigerator up to 1 day; the foil method is best and freezing is not recommended because the fruit texture gets watery. For a simple swap, use dairy-free chocolate chips for a dairy-free version while keeping the same gooey campfire melt.
