Ingredients

Chicken
  • 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts
  • salt to taste
  • pepper to taste
  • garlic powder to taste
  • smoked paprika to taste
Sour cream topping
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 0.5 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 packet (1 oz) ranch seasoning mix
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
Cheese & bacon
  • 1.5 cup shredded cheddar cheese divided
  • 0.5 cup Parmesan cheese grated
  • 6 strip bacon cooked crispy and crumbled
  • fresh chives for garnish

Equipment

  • 1 sheet pan

Method

Prep
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F and grease a 9x13 baking dish.
  2. Season the chicken breasts with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and smoked paprika, then place them in the prepared dish.
Make the topping
  1. Whisk together the sour cream, mayonnaise, ranch seasoning mix, and garlic powder until smooth.
  2. Spread the sour cream mixture generously over each chicken breast.
Add cheese and bake
  1. Top with the shredded cheddar, Parmesan, and crumbled bacon.
  2. Bake for 28-32 minutes at 375°F, until the topping is golden and bubbly and the internal temperature reaches 165°F; garnish with fresh chives.

Notes

Pro tip: for the thickest, most caramelized topping, spread the sour cream mixture all the way to the edges of each breast so it bakes down into a golden crust. Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3-4 days; reheat covered at 350°F until warmed through. Freezing is not recommended for best texture. For a lighter option, use light sour cream and light mayonnaise (the topping still bakes up cheesy and tangy).
